Peter Zelle- Glass
Sculptor Peter Zelle has worked with glass for more than 30 years. After many years of blowing and selling his popular “Shardware” Series through more than 100 galleries across the country, Zelle began focusing on one-of-a-kind sculptures, installations, and corporate recognition awards.
Zelle Glass Home Décor is his newest inspiration. It fuses his passion for fine art and his commitment to functionality in this work. In addition to many small glass art objects, the Horizon Series of benches are both beautiful and practical. They fill the need of enhancing one’s environment and giving one a place to rest. They exemplify decorative art in its highest form.
After studying with Dale Chihuly at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Zelle earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. An apprenticeship with noted glass sculptor Howard Ben Tre prepared him for establishing Zelle Glass Studio in Minneapolis in 1992. After reaching a point of sculptural clarity, Peter set out on creating a body of 7-foot tall cast glass pieces. Inspired by abstract expressionist painters like De Kooning, Kandinsky and Gorky, he spent more than a year refining his craft and exploring a new scale to make 14 of these large compositions.
