Description:
My work is an assemblage of handmade paper, acrylic paint, threads, and natural and found objects. I look to nature not only for elements to use in my work, but also for inspiration. I am the sole creator of this two-dimensional paper art.
My work is an assemblage of handmade paper, acrylic paint, threads, and natural and found objects. I look to nature not only for elements to use in my work, but also for inspiration. I am the sole creator of this two-dimensional paper art.My handmade paper is made from abaca pulp. Using the western method of papermaking, I dip my screen and deckle into the vat of pulp, then turn the screen onto wet wool blankets. The paper is naturally air-dried to enhance texture. I paint, stitch and manipulate the paper, then assemble the paper with found objects such as twigs, stones, beads, leaves, threads, and manipulated metal.
I enjoy being surrounded by the beauty and peacefulness of nature and my artwork is a reflection of this. I have traveled extensively throughout the United States and am especially inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the splendid color and vastness of the Southwest. Door County is another longtime inspiration where my studio overlooks a pristine roling meadow south of Sister Bay. My morning walks set a mood that carries through my work.
My wish is to have my art bring joy and serenity to the viewer.
