Description:
Acme Anvil Soup Ladle
Acme Anvil was begun inauspiciously in Alan McIntosh's back garden shed in 1992. The room was about the size of a pantry; it had only a dirt floor and was so small that McIntosh had to keep some of the tools in his house. Since then his studio has expanded to a picturesque building on the banks of a river, with large windows looking out across the waters of a bay.
Prior to designing and forging steel serving pieces and utensils, McIntosh spent five years learning to perfect the detailed work of metalsmithing on a smaller scale-- as a jeweler. When he discovered steel, it became his new passion. "It was something I knew I could explore for years."
"It was difficult at first working with stainless steel but after some frustration a style emerged that I consider unique. My serving pieces have been described as contemporary, cool, even funky, but I feel they also have a timeless appeal that can transcend fashion. The idea of Acme utensils being part of evening meals or backyard picnics at makes me very satisfied."
