Hotchkiss Mobile-AssentCopper, Brass, Stainless
These hanging metal mobiles can complement a traditional or contemporary space. Our mobiles are finished in one of two ways: One method is to "heat-treat" the metal. By heating and rapidly cooling the metal we are able to transform the copper. Often deep reds, purples, blues and greens are present in this finish. Each mobile becomes uniquely different from all others with this process.
The other technique we perform is to "hand-texture" the metals with a disk grinder...lightly cutting a pattern into the metal surface to create a highly reflective brushed surface. This process is done on copper, aluminum and brass.
Both finishes are clear-coated with lacquer. All the armatures and metal shapes are formed on custom-made jigs and welded at our West Stockbridge studio. Each mobile is signed and dated by the artist Joel Hotchkiss and is then carefully packed for shipping.
