Dalton Handcrafted StonewareJane Dalton is a native of Leland, Michigan. after high school she entered Central Michigan University where she majored in art and biology. after earning a Bachelor of Science Degree, she chose the University of Michigan for graduate work and received her MFA Degree in Ceramics from the School of Architecture and Design. Her studies were concentrated in developing original apple ash glazes. Before immersing herself completely in her art work, she was a public school art teacher. Later she was head of Lower and Middle School and Upper School ceramics for several years at North Shore Country day School in Winnetka, Il. She moved from Deerfield, Il. to Door County Wisconsin where she has a wonderful studio overlooking the waters of Green Bay.The Work:After more than twenty years of working with high fire stoneware and porcelain, Jane continues to find excitement in designing new forms and surface textures. The rich color depth of her ash formulas and endless combinations afforded by wax techniques, glaze spraying, and slip brushing are coupled with quality craftsmanship. Use and Care: Stoneware is very durable but is breakable with misuse, Glazes are lead free and can be used in conventional and microwave ovens. Baking dishes must be covered with food from side to side. Food should be at room temperature and placed in a cold oven. If used under a broiler, place 7 inches beneath. Never place on an open flame. Never put hot dishes on a cold wet surface. All pieces can be washed manually or in a dishwasher carefully loaded.
